You know how when you were a teenager, your mom always told you the importance of taking care of your skin? Well, she was right. How well you take care of your skin when you’re younger is going to determine how you look when you‘re older.

What 20 and 30-year-olds can do now to keep their skin looking young

When you’re in your 20s and 30s, great skincare is really all about taking preventive measures. The more you do now to keep your skin looking young, the less drastic steps you’ll need to take later in life.

In your 20s? Here’s what you should be doing.

Apply sunscreen every day. We know for a fact that the sun ages us. That’s why when you’re in your 20s, especially if you’re fair-skinned or have a condition that’s impacted by the sun, you need to apply a good sunscreen every single day. A physical blocker that’s also moisturizing is a great choice.

On that same note, I highly recommend that you avoid the sun when you can, and whatever you do, don’t use tanning beds – this is a mistake that will, unfortunately, linger with you forever.

Get a solid skincare regimen in place. First off, you need a good cleanser and moisturizer. You want to make sure you’re getting all that dirt and debris off your face before adding moisturization. Then it’s also not a bad idea to add on an antioxidant in the morning.

An antioxidant is going to help scavenge all those free radicals that breakdown collagen

Start using a retinal. I’m adamant that everybody needs a retinal because there are just so many benefits. It helps with wrinkles, acne, clogged pores, pore sizes, and it’s even going to help with precancer prevention.

If you’re in your 20s, it’s a no-brainer to start incorporating this into your skincare routine.

Consider trying other treatments. Especially if you have concerns about texture, it’s a good idea to start thinking about microneedling. Microneedling is going to help stimulate collagen production, and over time, this is going to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and enhance skin tone and texture. Of course, it can also improve the appearance of large pores and acne scarring, so it’s just a great treatment to start doing when you’re in your 20s.

The HydraFacial is another excellent treatment to incorporate because it’s going to help keep your skin healthy and hydrated without any downtime or irritation. When you do regular treatments, it’s going to help prevent fine lines and wrinkles and even help your skin’s elasticity and firmness.

In your 30s? Here’s my advice to you.

Continue the skincare regimen you started in your 20s and start using a growth factor. Remember that excellent skincare routine you started in your 20s? You’ll definitely want to continue that, but you may also want to think about adding in a growth factor.

Growth factors are proven to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also improving skin tone and texture. This ultimately means you’ll have a more youthful complexion.

Consider doing baby Botox®. By the time you’re in your 30s, you definitely want to consider doing a little baby Botox, which is simply lower doses of Botox.

With baby Botox, we’re not necessarily trying to smooth out etched-in lines. We’re more so just trying to prevent those deeper lines from forming at all, specifically the lines around the forehead, brows, and crow’s feet area.

Add Broadband light therapy (BBL) into the rotation. By the time you’re in your 30s, sun damage is probably starting to catch up with you. You’re starting to see little brown spots and discoloration, and that’s why it’s a great time to start doing BBL.

BBL is like a magic eraser for the skin. There was a 20-year study that followed people who regularly did BBL, and the patients actually looked younger than when they started.

BBL takes away all that sun damage and does so in a way that doesn’t leave you with a lot of down-time. And if we can gently lift that sun damage off, and it never really has time to take effect, then your skin just looks like porcelain forever.

Look younger for longer

If you’re in your 20s or 30s and want to keep your skin looking as young as possible, it’s essential to take preventative measures now. Taking great care of your skin doesn’t have to be extremely complicated.

You just need to take the right steps now to prevent those signs of aging from ever appearing., Fortunately, your dermatologist has some great ways to help you out.
